Round 2 Print Competition, Judge - Mike Clatworthy
Wow, what an extraordinary competition! Our judge, Mike Clatworthy, made a point of expressing how impressed he was by the very high standard of entries this time.
On the night, we had a good and enthusiastic attendance, with plenty of input from Mike, some good advice and fair comments about each image. He began with some basic advice on entering prints to competitions:-
Consider carefully what paper to use - its amazing how different a photo will look with different textures, coating and weighted paper.
Make sure the mount suits the image and brings out the best in it. Try colours other than white sometimes
Mike had a total of 36 prints to judge, of which he held back an astonishing 12! Of these, 7 achieved 18 points, 3 achieved 19 points and 2 achieved top mark with 20 points!
The winers, with 20 points each, were:
“Nightcrawler 2”, by Jo Debenham - an extraordinarily clever photo of a Dalmatian dog, leaping towards the camera from the top a silage bail, at night, with dusk glow and stars in the sky
“Splash & Dash”, by Nicky Rhodes - a super, mono photo of two horses with joyful riders, galloping straight for the photographer, out of a wild and choppy sea.
The images with 19 points were:
“Antiques Road Show”, by Jo Debenham
“Open Top Parade”, by Nicky Rhodes
“Rock Star”, by Jeff Fugler
I must say the rest of the entries really were very good and so I think Mike must have had a tough job choosing the top scorers.
Very well done to our winners, Jo and Nicky, and many thanks to Mike for this well considered comments and fair marking.
Next week we have and internal night. Bring along any images you would like to show and tell us about.
