Annual Awards Night
The last meeting of the season was a very relaxed and informal affair, with the giving of all our awards and trophies for both 2016/17 and 2017/18.
Because the awards are now presented at the end of each season, it has been decided to give them for the “current" years, rather than for previous, as has been the process until now. To make the transition, some of the images from last and this season where taken into account.
So, without further ado, here are the winners of the following trophies:
Sue began the evening by presenting the entire club with the Newquay Battle trophy and congratulated everyone for this triumph! Well done all!
The President’s award was presented by John Evans, our President, to Nicky Rhodes for her wildlife print, “Courtship Feeding”. John made the point that it is very hard to choose from the excellent but all too few prints entered for this award, by asking us all to pick one. He was correct - it was very hard! There were 12 entries. Next year, members will be able to enter 4 prints from 2017/18 and 4 more from 2018/19, to make the transition to the “current” season process.
The Chairman’s cup was presented by Sue, our chairman, to Nicola George for her lovely, wild landscape PDI, “Ben Loyal”. There were 17 entries.
The Best Newcomer cup will be shared between Saul Symis, for his excellent entries in the 2016/17 season, and Maria Pearce for her super work in 2017/18
There was a tie for the 2016/17 Best Print award, between Barry Jones and Nicky Rhodes, with 211 points each.
The 2016/17 Best PDI award was won by Nicky Rhodes, who achieved 155 points
Finally, the current, 2017/18 Best Print award, with 219 points and the Best PDI award, with 157 points, went to Nicky Rhodes!!! An amazing achievement!
Very well done to all our winners and many thanks to everyone who entered the competitions. I think the quality and quantity of entries we see are a real indication of how thriving this club is!
Sadly, this will be my last blog for the Carmarthen Photographic Society, because I’m moving away. So I’d just like to say thank you to everyone for your friendship, company and, particularly, for sharing your broad, creative and practical experience, knowledge and skills. I have learned so much in the 3 years I’ve been a member and will miss our weekly meetings very much.
All the best for the future.
