Round 4 Print Competition - Judge Gareth Martin.
At this week’s meeting, we had a good attendance and enjoyed viewing 24 prints with the guidance and advice of our judge, Gareth Martin.
He noted that a high proportion of the entries were nature and landscape related, although this was quite coincidental. The subjects included; the Scottish Highlands, modelling, pet portraits, flowers, wildlife and still life compositions.
Gareth’s comments were clear and fair and his marking ranged from 14 to 20. He had some advice about presentation; i.e. to help the judge, the titles on the back should be written the same way up as the print and he thinks that cream mounts just don’t work!
Image quality was high, resulting in Gareth giving five prints a score of 17, four prints a score of 18, one print a score of 19 and, of course, the winner scored 20.
These results will be available on the website’s results page.
The top scorers were:
With 18 points,
“Partner’s in Crime”, by Nicky Rhodes
“Oaks on the Teifi Bank”, by Nicola George
“Flying Visitor”, by Maria Pearce
“Ripe”, by Nicky Rhodes
With 19 points,
“Sunshine in a Winter Woodland”, by Mavis Evans
The winner, with 20 points,
“Gallop”, by Jo Debenham-Anstey
Congratulations to the top scorers and particularly to Jo, the well deserved winner!
Many thanks to everyone who entered and all who came along and made this evening a success. And, of course, thank you very much to Gareth for his well considered judging and entertaining presentation.
Next week, we have an internal, practical evening, so bring along your cameras, lenses, gadgets and props and be prepared to enjoy an informal session of photography and socialising!
