EGM and Tenby Selection
The 2018 - 2019 season started off with an EGM to enable us to just run over a few changes that had been agreed in the AGM in May.
Sue welcomed everyone back and gave us a paper copy of the upcoming season (full details of the programme are on the website).
Many of us end up disillusioned after competitions and often blame the judges, which Nicky Rhodes had discussed with a judge at the WPF show in Carmarthen in August. To give us some guidance to help us ramp up our scores, Sue had prepared a handout detailing “What Judges Look For”, which is a guideline that all the WPF judges should be working to. Nicky also confirmed that they should not be deducting points for titles or mounting (they can only comment or give advice).
This year there will be:
4 PDI competitions - 3 entries allowed
3 print competitions - 4 entries allowed.
There will be only 1 photographer of the year taken from these 7 competitions (we will be able to drop our lowest 3 PDI and our lowest 4 print scores).
To increase the number of prints submitted it was agreed to relax the rule that mounts had to be 40 x 50 cm. Prints can now be any size above 8 x 10 and mounted on any size board. However, if a print is chosen to be entered in an external battle then the author will be expected to remount on the standard 40 x 50 mount if they wish it to be entered.
When mounting proper framing tape must be used. (The shop in the Art College on Jobswell Road sells Magic Tape). You can buy reasonably priced, re-usable mounts from The Range in Carmarthen. We will be looking into bulk buying mounts.
Apart from the 1 photographer of the year mentioned above, there will also be the Chairman’s and President’s cups, chosen from 8 images, PDIs and prints respectively. For this year only, those images can be selected from either last season (2017/2018) or this season.
We then went on to choose 10 PDIs for the upcoming 8 way battle in Tenby on the 27 September. There will be no meeting in Carmarthen on that date, but please come along to the battle in St Florence to show support to Tenby - who always attend our battle nights.
Nicola and Sue ran through the arrangements for this year’s safari to be held on Saturday 8 September in Dinefwr Park, Llandeilo.
Next week we have Gerald Davies giving us a talk on Building up a Composition.
